The World Uses a Variety of Different Energy Sources

The world has a wide range of energy sources. Fossil fuels, including natural gas, oil, and coal–accounted for over 81 % of all energy consumed in 2018. Renewables such as solar power, wind power biomass, hydroelectricity and biomass account for 14 percent. Nuclear energy is responsible for another 5percent. Different countries employ different combinations of energy sources, balancing the environmental aspects with economics.

Energy is present in nature in many forms, including sunlight winds, waves ocean and many more. These primary sources can be transformed into more practical energy forms, such as electricity or heat when they are harnessed. When the energy source is exhausted, they are non-renewable energy sources.

The environment is harmed due to a wide range of fossil fuels as well as some other energy sources that aren’t renewable. Oil mining, for instance is a destructive process that can destroy the forests of the earth. Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) can trigger earthquakes and pollute the water. Burning coal releases carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming.

Fortunately, a lot of the most promising sources of energy are renewable and sustainable. Wind, solar and hydropower for instance, could produce electricity without the need to search for fresh supplies.

Other sources of sustainable energy are gaining https://leonardogiombini.it/2019/02/14/interessante-articolo-sui-biocarburanti/ momentum, such as tidal and wave power. To be used at a large-scale, these technologies need to have effective distribution networks. This requires the use of non-renewable energies to build these networks. Therefore, these sources aren’t enough to supply the majority of our energy requirements. But it’s important keep in mind that the costs for renewable energy equipment have dropped significantly over the last few years, and their efficiency is growing quickly.
